Here is a review on the Super Falcons of Nigeria and their readiness for the highly anticipated WAFCON 2024 which will be their mission X.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria ended their international break on a high note with a win over the Lionesses of Cameroon. We were there live at the MKO Abiola Stadium to catch a glimpse of their preparation for the upcoming WAFCON 2024 and here is our assessment of whether the squad is ready for the tournament.

Under the heavy rain in Abeokuta, the Super Falcons lived up to expectations with a performance that showed both maturity and finesse against their opponents, Cameroon. Led out by forward and captain Rasheedat Ajibade, the mission was clear: total domination on the pitch, get the result, and also impress the fans.

We were impressed that the quality remained the same and the Falcons showed why they are the best women’s team in Africa with a total of nine WAFCON titles under their belt, while indicating their hunger for more, their 10th title on the continent.

What does the Super Falcons of Nigeria’s misssion X mean?

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have launched a new campaign called “Mission X” ahead of the WAFCON 2024 tournament, scheduled to commence in July 2025. Questions on the relevance of this campaign have been raised; the answer is simple: ‘X’ in Roman numerals represents the number 10.

The squad has declared their intention to challenge for their 10th title on the continent, cementing their status as the most decorated women’s football team in Africa.

Given their dominant display against one of the best teams in Africa, the Super Falcons of Nigeria displayed their willingness to challenge for the title at WAFCON 2024, scheduled to take place in Morocco in July 2025.

From impressive link-ups to defense-splitting passes, as well as dribbles, all were on full display at the MKO Abiola Stadium. Nigeria played like a well-oiled machine hungry for a win, and although the squad can improve on taking their chances in front of goal, they showed that the squad was a unit as they seamlessly transitioned from defense to attack.

Fans could not take their eyes off the game for a second, as they were mesmerized by just how well the team played.

The fixture against Cameroon, which was played on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, started off shakily as the visitors took control of the game for the first 10 minutes; the girls, however, wrestled control back, and although there were lapses here and there, they maintained their dominance in both the first and second halves of the fixture.
