Veteran Nigerian singer Seyi Sodimu has described Wande Coal as the most talented artist in the Afrobeats scene, crediting him with reshaping the genre and inspiring a new generation of music stars including Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.

In a recent interview with comedian Teju Babyface, the Love Me Jeje crooner praised Wande Coal’s groundbreaking influence on Nigerian music, singling out his debut album, Mushin 2 Mo’Hits (2009), as a defining moment in the genre’s evolution.

“Wande Coal was one of the pivotal moments where he switched Afrobeats to the new generation, influencing people like Wizkid, Davido, and Sean Tizzle. It was Wande Coal’s style that took Afrobeats to the new sound. I think he is the most talented Nigerian Afrobeats artist,” Sodimu stated.

Seyi Sodimu emphasized that the unmatched vocal ability, songwriting skill, and creative versatility of Wande Coal have made him a foundational figure in the rise of modern Afrobeats.

When asked whether the singer has received adequate recognition for his impact, Sodimu argued that success shouldn’t be based solely on streaming numbers or commercial visibility.

“Any artist you ask, even Burna Boy can attest to Wande Coal’s artistry. People love Wande Coal when they hear his music,” he said. “I’m older than Wande Coal, and I know he’s actually operating at about 30% of his potential and still killing it. Imagine if he was at 78%. Wande is a genius, he can sing, he writes, and he’s simply amazing.”

Sodimu’s comments have sparked renewed appreciation for Wande Coal’s legacy, with many fans and industry observers echoing calls for greater recognition of his influence in shaping the Afrobeats sound.
