Why ‘We Don’t Trust You’ Deserved Rap Album of the Year Over Doechii’s ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’

I really do think ‘We Don’t Trust You’ by Future and Metro Boomin was more deserving than Doechii’s ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’ at the 2025 Grammy Awards. Doechii was awarded with the ‘Best Rap Album’ at the award ceremony.

I’m not trying to discredit Doechii’s win but ‘We Don’t Trust You’ by Future and Metro Boomin was definitely one of those most talked-about albums of 2024, and it had undeniable cultural effects that shouldn’t be ignored in the Rap Album of the Year category.

Released in March 2024, ‘We Don’t Trust You’ is a collaborative album between two of the biggest names in rap, Future and Metro Boomin. Quickly, the album became dominant in the music world.

Featuring high-profile collaborations with top acts like Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, and Rick Ross, it piled up major streaming numbers and dominated charts.

The album dominated the industry in 2024, not just because of its star-studded lineup but also because of the drama stirred by Kendrick Lamar’s verse on *Like That*, which became the centre of one of the most talked-about beefs of the year, with Lamar directly dissing Drake.

The album saw two rap legends in the game go head-to-head with diss tracks to each other. Kendrick Lamar’s diss track ‘Not Like Us’ won him 5 awards at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

The track “Like That” was nominated for two Grammy categories, ‘Best Rap Performance’ and ‘Best Rap Song’, but lost both categories to Kendrick Lamar’s own diss track to Drake titled ‘Not Like Us’.

What made ‘We Don’t Trust You’ the most outstanding record was its great commercial success: The album did manage to start from first place in the US Billboard 200 and got the largest opening week of 2024 by the time of the record release.

Doechii’s album, ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’, was released in August 2024. The album only had a guest appearance, which was a collaboration with Kuntfetish. “Nissan Altima” from the album, received a nomination for ‘Best Rap Performance’ and Doechii herself earned a nomination for ‘Best New Artist’ which Chappell Roan won.

‘We Don’t Trust You’ is the spot of several bangers. The lead single, ‘Type Shit’, was issued to Italian radio in March 2024 alongside the album, featuring Travis Scott and Playboi Carti. ‘Young Metro’, featuring The Weeknd, was the second single, while the third single, ‘Like That’ featuring Kendrick Lamar, reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Future’s third number 1 single and Metro Boomin’s first.

I feel ‘We Don’t Trust You’ deserved to win Rap Album of the Year at the 2025 Grammys with over 2 billion streams on Spotify while ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’ by Doechii, garnered 296 million streams, not trying to judge by the streams but I feel ‘We Don’t Trust You’ as an album was more influential in the rap scene than Doechii’ album.
