Wizkid’s ‘made in Lagos’ album becomes Nigerian most streamed album on Apple Music

In recognition of Nigeria’s 64th Independence celebration, Apple Music decided to honour Nigerian artistes who have immensely contributed to world music by publishing a list of the biggest Nigerian artistes, songs, and albums of all time.

In their post, they employed a mixture of Yoruba and Nigerian pidgin (Oshe Naija) which means thanks Nigeria.

Whist Wizkid’s album stands tall in first place, Burna Boy cemented his status as the “African Giant” after being named the most streamed Nigerian artiste on Apple Music, with Wizkid and Davido following behind in second and third respectively. Other heavy weights like Asake, Rema, Tems and Olamide make the top 10 list.

“Made in Lagos” album released in 2020 featured Tems on a global hit “Essence” that won a Grammy award.

Burna boy’s album Love, Damini comes in behind at second. It is worthy to note that Burna Boy has four (4) albums on the list. Others who made the list include Tems’ album at 4th position, Davido’s Timeless album, ‘Work of Art and Mr Money with the vibe’ by Asake and Omah Lay’s ‘Boy alone’

In an organised celebration, Apple Music will release the Oshe Naija collection will feature 8 exclusively curated playlists by Afro-fusion superstar Omah Lay (Port Harcourt), Hip-Hop force ODUMODUBLVCK (Abuja), maverick rapper Shallipopi (Benin City), Afro-R&B doyenne Qing Madi (Benin City), genre-bending singer-songwriter Seyi Vibez (Lagos), legendary Afro-pop singer-songwriter 2Baba (Jos), sure-fire rapper Jeriq (Enugu) and trailblazing up-coming singer Bloody Civilian (Abuja).
