Wizkid continues to solidify his place as one of Africa’s biggest music icons with the release of his latest album, Morayo. Released on November 22, 2024, the album has already set a remarkable new record for the highest opening week streams for an African artist on Spotify, racking up an impressive 48 million streams in just seven days. This achievement has broken the previous record held by South Africa’s Tyla, at 46.4 million streams in a week. This feat not only surpasses previous records but also positions Morayo as the African album with the most streams in its opening week on the platform.

The album, which features 16 tracks, has captivated audiences worldwide with collaborations from notable artists like Asake, Brent Faiyaz, Tiakola, Anais Cardot, and Jasmine Sullivan. Its success across streaming platforms has been immediate, reaffirming Wizkid’s global influence in the music industry.

In addition to breaking the record for the highest opening week streams, Morayo also set a new benchmark for the biggest opening day streams for an African album on Spotify. It has achieved another notable milestone by becoming the first African album in history to have every single track surpass 500,000 streams within its first 24 hours.
