Grammy nominated and award winning singer Yemi Alade has in unusual fashion taken to social media to call out Nigerian radio company Cool FM. In a series of tweets posted on X, she accused Cool FM of playing God and taking down her music and urged them to keep at it.
Yemi Alade has built a reputation over the years for being concerned with her music and staying away from conversations and drama, a position one can argue has been a double edged sword on her career. It was surprising to many to see that she would take to X to call out a radio company after a year.
The tweet read “My God, BIG PASS YOUR WHOLE station @cloutafrica @CoolFMNigeria , keep on forming gate keepers and taking my songs down. NA GOD BE MY LABEL AND MANAGEMENT, we go meet for front. Fake people wey dey feel like small gods”.

“Una dey carry person for mind …. for 1 year @cloutafrica and @CoolFMNigeria shameful, very shameless”, she said in another post.
The conversation on gate keeping has been around Afrobeats for a while and it’s a situation where individuals or companies use the authority built over the years to make decisions affecting the genre influenced by their personal views.

She also asked the radio station to take down her entire catalog and gave more insight to what happened in a series of follow up tweets. She said “Take down my whole catalog from your stations @CoolFMNigeria and @cloutafrica …. God go still give me food. You’re beefing an artist for 1 full year, over your event. I didn’t go, too. I apologized and even called your oga him dey form oga no even reply my text”
There appears to be more to the story, and it’s unclear why she’s speaking out after a year. We await official statements from the Cool FM company.
