Nigerian street-pop star Zinoleesky has made history with his debut album Gen Z, which racked up 2,458,077 streams on Spotify Nigeria on its opening day, the highest ever for a debut album on the platform.
Released on April 25, 2025, the 16-track project marks a major milestone for the Marlian Music signee, following years of anticipation fueled by hit singles like Ma Pariwo, Kilofeshe, and EPs such as Grit & Lust.
Led by the chart-climbing single Most Wanted, Gen Z features collaborations with Naira Marley, Toosii, Ms Banks, and others, blending Afrobeats, street-pop, and global influences.
While opinions on the album’s cohesion vary, Gen Z’s early streaming numbers are undeniable, with additional 500,000+ streams on Boomplay within 48 hours.
The breakout success of Gen Z on Spotify cements the place of Zinoleesky as a frontrunner in Afropop’s new wave.
